In the early 1900s something quite amazing happened

The great plant hunters returned home from sponsored expeditions to far-off lands – the Himalayas, China, Burma, Tasmania and The Andes, to name a few – and set about planting new species over hundreds of acres of High Weald land. These new and spectacular displays, carefully planted amongst existing woodland and parklands, transformed these historic country properties, and started a new and colourful chapter in Mid Sussex’s history. Today we benefit from the care and attention the current garden owners and their staff continue to lavish on these spectacular environments.
